Friday, January 27th, 2012

Today was our class PJ Day and we had a great time!!
Mrs. Deborah brought us hot chocolate and munchkins from Dunking’ Doughnuts for our snack this morning. She also wore her PJ’s and sat in our Kindergarten pod area while we had “Book Buddies” with all of our Kindergarten classes. :)
We had fun wearing our PJ’s all day and Mrs. Morgan and Ms. Becky wore theirs too. :) . We think teachers in pajamas are funny!!
Mrs. Morgan read all of our books we brought and we enjoyed the good literature that was read to us.
We had fun with our second grade buddies this afternoon and always look forward to them reading to us. :)

We brought a permission slip home for a field trip next Friday. We are going to First Flight High School and see the play Dr. Doolittle. We will leave promptly at 8:10am and return by 9:45am. This production is put on by the Parks and Recreation Department and we were invited to see it. There is no cost for us to attend. Please return the signed permission slip by February 1, so I will know who will be attending. Thanks

Have a super weekend,
Mrs. Morgan and class. :)

Today Mr. Chuck came to discuss the pillar of character Fairness with us. We listened to the story and discussed it with him. Math time was spent reviewing our numbers to 20 as well as what comes before and after numbers when we are counting. Please review this skill with your child at home. The numbers were out of order with blanks before and after the one in the middle. Ex: _ 4 _. Being able to acquire this skill will assist with further number sense, addition, and subtraction.
We had many volunteers and visitors in our class today. Ms. Miki, and Mr. Richard came to work with some of our peers. We truly appreciate all of their help!
We had a class brought to us from the Wildlife Society by Ms. Abby. We learned about birds and designed our own! :) It was a lot of fun and our finished products were great!! She will be back in February to discus Mrs. Morgan’s favorite animal BEARS!!
Reminder:
Tomorrow is PJ Day! Bring your stuffed animal that fits in your backpack, favorite book, slippers, .. But wear regular shoes, and your PJ’s!!!
Have a great evening,
Mrs. Morgan and class

Today we worked on more 1 – 20 in math. Please review counting objects with your son and daughter. This application of amount is very important to the Number Sense connection. The use of any and all household objects, both big and small, will benefit this skill. Thanks :)
We went to the gym today and had a visit with the dental hygienist. Please check your child’s folder for a notification of their findings. CHEESE!!!! :)
Stay warm brrrrrrrrr and snuggle up with a good book tonight together.
Mrs. Morgan and class. :)

Today we all had to work very hard and we did a great job!! In math we wrote our numbers 0 – 20 both in and out of order. We also discussed their amounts using counters.
PE was fun as always and our weekly favorite! :)
In Language we compared the two stories The Three Blair’s and The Three Bears. Ask your child to tell you about them and describe their-likenesses and differences. We drew a picture of something that happened in the story and then wrote about it all by ourselves!!! We are truly getting ready for First Grade since we only have 94 days left in this school year. WOW!!
Please read nightly and keep working on those sight words. This will help us become even stronger in our writing. Thanks :)

Have a wonderful Wednesday,
Mrs. Morgan and class. :)

We had a nice day today even though the weather was not as sunny as we all wished. In computers with Mrs. Evanoff this morning we made snowmen on KidPix. We had a great time doing this activity and then wrote about them in Language time. Our stories are really good and we felt very proud of our work. :)
Our new sound today was the letter -v. We reviewed the sound and practiced writing them. We discovered that the capital and the lowercase look just alike just smaller. We also revisited the sound for -qu with a new book called The Queen and the Quilt. We had fun reading it with silly voices like a real Queen. :) Please read this book with your child and any others they have brought home. ***Remember that your child needs to be able to read these books “independently” in order to be marked off as having read that book. :)

Today Mr. Chuck talked to us about the pillar FAIRNESS. We learned that it is being Fair when we treat each other nice, take turns, do not interrupt, let our friends say their own answers. We are going to try and be very Fair to one another and our families.
We worked on the letter Q and its sound is made with qu. Mrs. Miki came to help in our class today and worked with us on our sight words. We have a new book to read Jelly and Jam.
Our Mystery Reader was Hannah’s Grandma and she read two wonderful funny stories to us.
Have a super evening,
Mrs. Morgan, and class:)

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Today we were reviewing all of our numbers 0 – 20. Mrs. Morgan “flashed” an amount of dots and then we had to write what we saw on our dry erase boards. We had fun and we did not let Mrs. Morgan trick us. :) . In P.E. we played the game LaCross. Mr. Smalley said we worked really well together. :) . In Language we worked on the Word Family -an. We made a flip book and brought it home for us to practice this skill. Please read over the words with your child and generate a simple sentence with them. Ex: I see a fan. Discuss the word meaning this way and the sentence structure format. We also reviewed the family -ig with the dog book we made. Please read it with them and point out the repetitive text, word families, and encourage them to find sight words they already know in print. :) Mrs. Morgan has a picture of a person reaching for the stars. The caption reads ” YOU will because YOU can! We all set goals as individuals. Ex: looking when someone is speaking, being respectful, working without reminders, listening, sitting still and being calm, using an inside voice, being kind… Just to name a few. :)
Please sit and discuss together some goals you can set and a plan of how to reach them. Modeling these choices is the best way to teach the importance of this skill.
I would like to thank you for your support in sending in the items we requested. Ms. Becky and I truly appreciate it.

Have a super evening,
Mrs. Morgan, and class :)

It is the first day of school for the year 2012. We have had a very nice day together. In Math we talked about the numbers 0 – 20. We will be making a book about all the numbers 11 – 20 and their amounts in the next few days. :) In Language we learned the the letter Q does not have a sound without the letter u. We also reviewed all of the letters we have learned and their sounds. I will be learning the last 4 letters in the next 2 weeks and then we will have covered all 26. We practiced word families -in and -ig. We have a new book Called Where is Piggy? that we can also review these families at home.
We checked on our friend Winter the dolphin and his friends on the webcam today. :) They were playing with each other and looked happy. :)

It would be helpful if I could bring the following things to school to help our class.
1. glue sticks
2 wipes
3. small cups for water
4. box of 8 basic colored crayons

Thank you for your help and Happy New Year!

Have a super evening,
Mrs. Morgan and class :)

Today we started making our Leaf Print T-Shirts. They are really coming out nicely and are “full” of Fall color. We will continue this tomorrow and complete this activity. We also learned about color and light today. We know the colors are always in the leaves but when they do not get as much heat and light the colors come out. We are being very creative and waiting patiently for our turn with Mrs. Morgan to paint our leaves and place them on our shirts. :) We will wear them next week for the first time at our Fall Festival. A great BIG thank you to everyone who sent “extras” for our friends to share. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
We are also involved in sight word checks, reading stories, and report card assessments this week.
Tomorrow is our last full day of school for this week. Thursday is a half day and we dismiss at 11:45a.m. Friday there is NO school, so enjoy your LONG weekend and we will see you on Monday the 31st.
Have a great evening,
Mrs. Morgan, Ms. Becky, and class :)

In Math we worked on writing our numbers and forming them correctly. Please work on this skill at home.
Tomorrow we will go to PE and we need to wear our tennis shoes.
Last Friday we had our First Fuzzy Celebration!!! Mrs. Morgan brought ice cream sundaes for us to eat. We also watched a Reading Rainbow about Gregory the Terrible Eater. It was funny and we had a lot of fun. :)
